Equipment

  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Can opener
  • Small knife
  • Oven mitts

Ingredients

For the Peach Filling

  • 2 cans sliced peaches in juice or syrup 15 ounces each
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Cake Mix Topping

  • 1 box yellow cake mix 15.25 ounces
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2: Prepare the peaches

  • Pour one full can of peaches with the juice into the baking dish. Drain about half of the liquid from the second can, then add the peaches and remaining liquid to the dish.

Step 3: Add flavor to the filling

  • Sprinkle the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg over the peaches. Add the vanilla extract and lemon juice. Stir gently until the peaches are coated.

Step 4: Add the cake mix

  • Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the peach filling. Do not prepare the cake mix according to the box directions. Use it dry.

Step 5: Add butter and topping flavor

  • Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon over the top.

Step 6: Bake the cobbler

  • Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling around the edges.

Step 7: Let it rest

  • Remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes. This helps the filling thicken before serving.

Step 8: Serve warm

  • Spoon the cobbler into bowls and serve warm. Add vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if you like.
